Sports are a high point of campus life at RAA. Students look forward to competing in basketball, volleyball, and cross country. RAA encourages athletic development and sportsmanlike conduct through participation in a number of leagues and tournament competitions.

RAA has junior high (grades 6, 7, and 8) basketball programs for boys and girls. In cross country, RAA students compete at the junior high, and elementary levels. Junior high girls compete in volleyball.

Despite the relatively small size of RAA, students have made a name for themselves in cross country and volleyball. The elementary cross country program has produced champions in the City of Redding league, at the City Meet and at the West Valley Coed Meet. The junior high girls volleyball team won the league championship and the final tournament in 2007 and 2008. The team was undefeated in 2008. RAA’s 2009 junior high girls basketball team was also undefeated.

“We encourage students to participate in individual and team sports where they have an opportunity to develop their skills. Our emphasis is on teamwork, cooperation, and skills, but the program focus is on building character. It’s great to be on a winning team, but character development is our main goal.”

RAA’s ski program is the only one in Redding that is school-wide, including kindergarten. The recreational program consists of several ski days a year at Mt. Shasta.
